Awards & Recognition

A&B's communities are as diverse as its businesses, but one measure holds true: The company and all of its constituent businesses strive to conduct business in an ethical, responsible and exemplary manner. This has been regularly recognized over the course of the last century, throughout the company, and particularly in Hawaii where A&B's roots are deep.

Recent Awards

2008

Matson Navigation Company is honored for the sixth consecutive year with Logistics Management magazine's prestigious Quest for Quality award in the Ocean Carrier category. Matson ranked high among all ocean carriers recognized in the annual reader survey, which rates transportation companies in five key services areas: on-time performance, value, equipment and operations, information technology and customer service.

Matson Navigation Company is honored by Toyota which awarded two '2007 Toyota Logistics Excellence' awards: for Marine Quality for ensuring vehicles were transported as safely and securely as possible, and for Outstanding Achievement, for successfully providing sailing and delivery priorities.

CRO (Corporate Responsibility Officer) Magazine Names Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. to its CRO's 100 Best Corporate Citizens 2008, with strong ratings in four of eight categories: environment, employee relations, human rights and philanthropy.

2006

The Alexander & Baldwin Building, managed by A&B Properties, Inc., was honored by Hawaiian Electric Company for earning the 'Energy Star' Award for its historic building recently retrofitted with energy-saving systems. The Building was built in 1929 and is recognized on both the Hawaii and National Registers of Historic Places.

Matson Navigation Company is honored with the U.S. Coast Guard's Rear Admiral William M. Benkert Marine Environmental Award for Excellence, which recognizes achievements in marine environmental protection well beyond compliance with industrial and regulatory standards. Matson was the only containership operator recognized in the 2006 award process, which is conducted every two years. Other recipients of the 2006 award include Dow Chemical, British Petroleum, Marathon Petroleum and Todd Shipyard.

2005

A&B Properties, Inc. is honored by the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties-Hawaii Chapter with the 'Kukulu Hale Developer of the Year' Award, recognizing those who have made a significant contribution to Hawaii's commercial real estate industry and our community through their transactions, projects, philanthropic and civic activities.

2003

Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. honored by Fortune Magazine, in its annual poll of American's Most Admired Companies, as top-ranking for social responsibility. Fortune polls annually 10,000 executives, directors and analysts and its results are a key indicator of a company's reputation among leaders in the business world.

Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. honored by the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation as its 2003 Corporate Honoree via their ''Kulia I Ka Nu'u Award program. A&B was noted for its support of Hawaii's public education system, directly and indirectly, decade after decade and for its matching gift program which encourages A&B employees and retirees to provide cash support to schools - from preschool through university.

East Maui Irrigation Company is honored by the American Society of Civil Engineers as a 'National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark', a designation which recognizes civil engineering works that have made a significant contribution to the development of the United States and to the profession of civil engineering.

2002

Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. honored by Business Leadership Hawaii, a cadre of select media and business owners in Hawaii, as "Best in Business - Division I (Over $10 Million)" during its inaugural year of the program. A&B was noted: "Among the corporations doing business in Hawaii today, A&B is in rare company. Well into its second century of business operations, A&B retains the highest reputation for integrity and corporate citizenship, with its employees continually assuming leadership roles in our community while representing an employer they clearly respect."

2000

Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. honored by the Historic Hawaii Foundation as the 'Kama'aina Company of the Year,' in recognition of its contributions to the social well-being of the islands' communities, for maintaining one of Honolulu's most admired and recognizable historic landmarks - the A&B Building - and for its role in shaping Hawaii's early statehood economy. This was the first time a company was honored via the HHF's annual awards program.

1992

Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. honored by the National Society of Fundraising Executives-Aloha Chapter as the 'Corporate Philanthropist of the Year,' in the inaugural year of this awards program - the first company in Hawaii to be honored.
